decided to keep my caddy with insurance only costing 233€ i'd be a fool to let it go
so today i decided to sort out the bed i removed the dirty roll bar and have the bed cut out not a big job but
with the right tools and a big hammer its quiet an easy task
Image

the plan for now is just to replace the bed and doe her for now untill i have time in the summer to go balls out and pimp it out have some plans floating around in my head maybe a 20v toubo or 16v on R1 bike carbs any suggestions welcome, it will be getting paint at some stage but for now i might just leave it and put a big engine in it keep her as a sleeper

anyway enjoy

any bed suggestions?
i was just going to replace the centre section with some checkered plate? or i could just put some 2mm plate in and some wood strips.
i want to do something stylish but still pratical so a full wood bed would be out as it would get ruined
i was also thinking of putting in a sunroof what you think?

Thanks ronan, I'll be up for that metal hoop, if you can hang onto it for me....

...not a big fan of the white one; too much going on there; GTI pillar winddeflectors, arches, BBS kit...

...I wouldnt cut the roof for a sunroof; might devalue the caddy in the end; theres an infamous member (big scener) on here who aquired his caddy with this mod already done and hes looking to return it back to original via welding in much or an original roof panel, maybe from a 4 door; its doable but not an easy job with the distortion welding creates....

I was thinking of checkerplate on mine at one stage; bed and cutting checker plate 'inserts' for the 'pressed in' areas at the sides of the caddys bed....

QUOTE (p-graal @ Apr 9 2010, 09:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>ah sure go mad and make it rwd

had that idea is very simple all you have to do is get an e30 diff and subframe amd make a connecting frame out of box section to meet it
get any rwd engine and mount its subframe or make you own mounts use its gearbox and make a prop to mate both engines together
the only problem would be the steering hubs woulg have to be changed and the steering rack would have to be moved lower and claser to the front of the car to allow room for the gearbox.

time to update this, thesis it nearly done so ill have time to get back to this,
plans have changed for the better, the caddy is getting converted to RWD.
picked by the running gear from Brian.G last friday (thanks Brian)

the gearbox will be mounted in the rear and will be connected to the 20v turbo up front using a torque tube
have measured the rearsubreame that i got from brians 924 and it will fit almost perfectly. i plan on using the standard
vw loom so ill have diadnostic and a management system i have fait in and which wont give me trouble.
i have a few pic taken should have them up in the next day or two.

i have a lot riding on this so it has to get done no matter what. a lot of people to prove wrong!
i measured the torque tube and it will have to be extended by about 6-8 inches, this will allow the bell housing to sit past the steering rack
the rack will be lowered about 2-3 inches aswell to make clearance. got myself a new camera this time so it will be fully loaded with pics.
the selector will also habe to be moved and the rod needs to be added to make up the difference.

and hopefiully the last bit of cutting will be the top of the rear bell housing to allow the gearbox to sit snug under the bed. any suggestions welcome once the build starts which should be next week. any ideas of where to put the tank as its in the was at the moment and will need to be moved i'l like to keep it hidden if possible under the bed

keep watching

You strike me as the kinda fella that thinks things tru first before doing something so ide say you'll be fine

Are you able to weld??

i like to not waste money lol so i think and think and think, but credit has to go to brian i nerer thought of the torque tube idea
it makes better sense. there is two bits of welding that need to be tig welded so i'll get someone who can tig weld to do that, the rest ill hopefully do myseld need to get a 4ft bottle for the mig before i start and a bit of 3x1 inch box steel replacing the corss members in the bed with sonething more substantial
the bed will be raised and i want it to look something likt this but maybe not as flash love the colour too but i think it going red with flared arches undecided about wheels but will have a dish no matter what.

(edit, if you have to add length to shaft then use a main shaft from an 02a and sleeve it onto the front section of drive shaft, that way your splines will then be correct for the 1.8T clutch. Be sure to post treat after welding. Just a thought.)

thats a good idea, i might use a mk2 8v gearbox main shaft and bell housing etc. as i have one thats fucked here, i wont feel as guilty. i think the arc is the job for that, the mig i have wouldn't burn into it enough
