Hi,

I'm new on here. I hope to very soon buy a mk3 golf van and convert it to tdi. I know this is not a sraight engine swap job. every thing has to transfer over from donor car into the van/car. but i really want to do it. the reason i'm doing a van it will cause its my daily (have another car). and I've ahd two golf mk3 1.9D vans before and they were slow. so I'd like abit of get up and go but still return good mpg.
So if anyone know who or where let me know

Thanks Paddymack

do you want to convert it to PD TDi or just tdi 1Z direct from mk3 tdi donor car ?

...where are you based??...obviously you'll want to cut down on transport cost and maybe keep an eye on progress; take pics or whatever, so somewhere reasonably local might be advisable; there are plenty of folk who'll take on such work; Geo, Colton, BrianG etc etc, all on 'opposite end, or centre of the compass ...or if you plan on doing it yourself, and are in Tipperary, I can give you a number of my 'landlord' where I have a unit.... welcome BTW

I'm in cavan, but home is sligo but as long as its not a 100miles away I'm easy.

as for donor car, that depend on the man with the spanners. if a pd conversion is the same amount of work as a 1Z conversion I'd be mad not to go for a PD.

PD is a lot more work ,if you go for 1z from mk3 golf it a straight swap of everything (but where the fun in that

),
the pd conversion means lot more wiring ,fuel pump in tank, immo, dash clocks etc.
Pd would be the way id go but if you paying garage to do most of work you spend at a guess twice what the 1z conversion would cost

I'll see what unit I use when I find a man/woman who would be up for the job. the main plus with the PD is power ans of course the chance of getting a donor with lowish miles on it.
but I hear that he mk1 skoda oct had the same 1Z as the mk3 might be bull I heard it.
but the first item on the list is a
1.mechanic
2.golf van
3.donor car
4.other bits/improvments........

that passat has big milles on it. I'd still like to have a mechanic on board before I start to collect cars, (she'll go off her head)

I can highly recommend Geo for this job Paddy.............and I'm sure those here who know his work will easily agree

X2; ...no real point in getting it done twice; I speak for myself here but I still wing it here and there on the mechanical end in the belief that its is all experience , and my methods can be dubious on the 'spannerey' end at times; but I only have myself to blame at the end of the day if I am stuck at the side of the road; in your case with such a conversion if its going to be a daily and 'rely'd upon; better off going with someone who knows their stuff and works with VAGS everyday of the week; you'll have peace of mind driving the car...

X3

Geo is doing the same to my mk2 van. Upgrading it from a 1.6D to a 1.9TD from a passat that has just completed the Scally Rally. He also sourced the passat for me. Cost me 350 bones. I wouldnt worry to much about a high millage motor. VAG diesel engines are bullet proof when looked after

Thanks again Geo, your the best

never thought of it as a van, but here you go. you need to do your sums again!
