Edited version here... Vimeo can be slow sometimes

Just shows ya the messers we have in the Garda.. It would be different if these guys were off duty, in the pub havin a chat, but at the end of the day they were at work and shoud be profesinal at all times to each other as well as to the public
obviously jokin bout rapin by a garda is just rediculous but by broadcasting this clip a woman who may have been raped would now be less likely to report the crime as their first 'safe refuge' would be in reporting the matter to a garda.

However the time and money which is spent in keeping the corrib gas line free from protestors is absolutely rediculous, the army who seem to be doing 'feic all' should be drafted in and put on point duty up there. If i was a gaurd having to deal with that rubbish everyday i would be fair pissed, not as far as raping or suggesting to rape a girl but still, fairly pissed.

The army cant do the job as far as I am aware, they cannot be used against the people. It would be against the constitution I imagine. That said they guard cash in transit vans so there must be a way around it.

What was said was wrong and I imagine they will be in serious trouble but lets not blow this out of all proportion, it was a few lads in the car not the entire Gardai. I know a few who have worked down there and its not a pretty picture that they paint

I actually laughed when I heard it, its clearly a few lads having the craic, just listening to Matt cooper there also, and a good few callers shared the same view.
It was in a car, out of public ears, or so they thought.
aye I know that alrite but surely they could do something to get their moneys worth out of them, since we're neutral and all. That's it like by broadcasting this clip and papers reporting it as thou the whole garda force are the same it will cause the issue to be blown out of the water.

are you a member of that crooked force by any chance......I heard a few things when i was doing my PSA licence about conflicts between the security companies and the garda up there, and there is more than 1 video circulating aswell, the protesters have plenty to throw at them, the gards are very good at throwing their weight around.......

Tommy Tiernan makes jokes about rape and people pay money to see him? Not the same I know, but he actually makes a living from it...
geas no don't put me down ta be one a them. probally sound like it looking at that post but no definately not. I just think it's madness the money that's spent up their on protestors been completly retarded is mental. Broadcasting this will just cause women which were raped to be afraid to report the crime to a garda as they'll have a stero type view from the reporting thats been done on this. But please don't take it up wrong I really can't stand the gaurds and the shite they do be at

Very valid point.

All for having the craic and all but thats a bit far to be honest. Plus why didnt they check that the camera was off if they were confiscating it? Cowboy enough about it it seems. But id imagine the poop could hit the fan over it all now with them.

and rightly so, a few of them could do with being taken down a peg or 2

They are, but Ill still hold out with saying that they too were Joking. I think folk forget these guys are people too, and thought they were saying it in confidence, and having a laugh.
Dont forget that these Guards have had a pretty hard time in Rossport over the last few years because of these crusties. These crusties are wise people who know their rights and will run to the ombudsman over anything and are a serious burden on the state, fair enough the way the oil/gas rights was given away was wrong but the crusties arent going to achive anything.

Not saying what they said isnt wrong.
A Garda makes a stupid joke thats not funny. So what. Its obvious there was no actual intention that he was about to go out and rape someone.

Its not professional, and he should get some form of internal punishment for it.

same as the hypothetical term in an arguement such as "i'm going to kill you" who knows the persons intention ? only that person themself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!but of course he will get away with a slap on the wrist and no more will be heard about it in a couple of days, "DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS"

Shows how much you know about the Army then doesn't it.

This whole episode is typical of the 'mountain out of a molehill' culture that has taken over this country in the last few years it is ridiculous.
