Dropping car in for dsg oil change very soon..originally tried to charge me 360, but I got him down to 240...

While its in, I'm going to ask him to change the engine oil..car had major service 10 km ago so nothing else needs doing..how much extra should I be expecting to pay for this ,just incase he tries to rip me off again..?

Thanks

Edit|
sorry , one more thing, the guy who sold menthe car topped it up with oil ,but put too much in, it's a bit over the max fill Mark on the dipstick...am I taking a risk driving it like this?

Sorry for all the stupid questions, it's my first gti and am just being extra careful!

QUOTE (Geo @ Apr 8 2011, 09:49 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I think the dealers do a lube service for €99.

We do the DSG service for €175 and the lube service for €80 so there is another option for you

Hey, that's a good price! Where are you based? Unfortunately , I had to give my credit card details to the dealer when booking in, as he said they had to order the oil and filter in especially...what exactly does a lube service cove, just a bare oil change, or oil and filter?

I tale it you specialise in vw/vag , if so can you give me your details as I need to find someone localish to service my car.thanks. Would the 5w30 vw507 oil make it any more expensive?

Lube service is basically an oil and filter change along with some quick checks of lights, wipers, tyres etc. The 5w30 507.00 spec engine oil is included in our price and that is what the dealer will be using also.

We are based near Portlaoise in Co Laois, all of our info is in my signature, if you click on the image it will take you to our forum section which contains pricing info etc.

Great, thanks for that , will have a look now.

By the way, do you mind me asking..will I do any harm driving the car..the guy that sold it topped up the oil too much..it's over the max line on the dipstick ...should I be ok?

I paid E130 a few weeks ago for a first service in VW Garage...

Which isn't the worst, but considering oil & filter are circa. E30

& as I feared beforehand, it was left in the hands of an apprentice
.....
noticed when I left he had oil stained the pillar material around the belt with

how do I even begin to tackle cleaning it???

Thanks

It doesn't necessarily have to be Castrol but it has to have the VW 504.00/507.00 spec. Not all full synthetic 5w30 does. For example we stock 2 types of 5w30 synthetic oil, one for VW/BMW/Merc which meets the 504.00/507.00 spec and one (cheaper) Ford spec which doesn't.

What main dealer would have to order in advance, an oil filter and oil
for a mk5 (Im guessing by the mileage you gave). Thats just stupid.

Another thing I cant understand is how an oil and filter change costs more than 50 quid.
Turn a bolt, leave the oil out, swap the filter, tighten the bolt and put oil in. Fair enough the parts cost 30euro of so, but to charge 50euro for 15mins work?

Just a quick example of a place down the road from here...

$29.95
Oil and Filter
Top Off Fluids
Tire Rotation
Air Pressure Check
Balance-Check All Tires
Roadside Assistance
23-Point Courtesy Check

ordered parts would be dsg

garages need to cover exps and make a profit, 120 is not bad for a main dealer and allot cheaper than years gone by

I dont do oil changes, that was a franchise company called Meineke I got that price from which was there more expensive oil change price, they use mobil 1 as standard in most places but I was told by one of the mechanics in there when I got an exhaust welded that you could bring in your own oil and they'd change the price so as not to charge for it.
Like I said in the first post though, fair enough if parts cost more.

That statement proves that you are not qualified to comment on how much should be charged for an oil and filter change. The cheapest oil and filter for an 07-9 2.0 tdi mk5 from here is £47.81 plus p+p, the most expensive is £67.18.

What ever land you seem to be living in, where all oil is the same and will work fine in any car

You seem to be out for an argument here and your getting hung up on the price of oil which Im not too fused about.
Its the labor charge by the main dealers that annoys me.

I can get a liter of petrol in texas for 50cent per liter, its 1.50 here. I cant understand why there is such a difference
, the garages are robbing everyone blind, oh wait a minute different country and 50 other different things

I think thats actually a good price Geo and the dealers charge.
I do my own car bits, and for me 507 costs from €42 to €57. Then the OEM filters. I doubt i have much change out of Geo's price.. Im sure he can get them trade for cheaper, which hes entitled to, but those prices are very good and wouldnt complain to be honest.

Where the dealers win, and alot of garages too, is A, the hourly rate, and mainly how many hours to charge for.
I know plenty of lads who say leave the car there for the day and it takes an hr.....not 3 or 4 as charged
