Searched this topic and couldnt find much, so who has run their cars through the NCT low. My car is dropped on coilovers and have the camber and tracking 100% and dont want to raise it and mess around with camber again!

Its tucked all round, could this be failed on lack of clearance between the wheel and arch?

Any help appreciated!

Are the arches rubbing on the tyres at all? I remember seeing some sort of Jap yoke going through the NCT with it's fornt bumper off so it could go up on the rollers and the ramp. He passed. That said, back then you could stick €50 in the ash tray and pass...

I cut some of the plastic lining out of the arches so its not rubbing anymore, I suppose my major concern would be getting it down onto the rollers

Think someone said before its 4 inches of clearance from ground to bumper.

Don't quote me on that though.

you can leave it low, but as soon as the keys get into the 'testers' hands, they are quite brutal n rough with it; I had a very low Mk3 for testing years ago; went into the testing bay running.... they later returned the keys (after a quick group meeting/huddle) saying 'that car wont restart' - on driving the car onto the rollers they slapped the bottom of the tank on the floor and knocked out the fuel pump; fee refunded, it was 'communicated' that the car would have to be towed away by the end of the day or it'd get clamped/and or impounded....

The rollers are not the issue, it's the ramp. If it catches the ramp it's a fail.

My T4 multivan-mpv is lowered -60 rear -70ish front and its been through two nct's i know a van sits a lot higher than a car,but dont think just because its lowered its an automatic fail just depends on how low i suppose.

The car needs 4 inches clearance at the lowest point because if it is touching the ground when on the brake tester, the tyres are not making proper contact with the rollers. In my experience if the car can clear the brake tester properly, then it shouldn't have a problem getting onto the ramp.

I've had two fairly low cars through the nct over the years in the limerick test centre and in fairmess they took great care on the rollers, i mean literally edged the cars on and off but in saying that tho yours is fairly borderline for height. If you think the bumper might catch just take it off, its a fail but just a visual so pop it back on after and no fee afterwards to get it seen.
Oh and in regards to the 4", i was told that too but i think its just a safe measurment, i was lower.

RE not getting onto the rollers, when I put my car through it wouldn't go onto the rollers so they did the brake test outside with the decelerometer, the testers had no issues with the fact it wouldn't go on the rollers and they were very careful with it.

Thats actually a good point. I always took it that if it was too low for the rollers they couldn't test it. Hence alot of the jap stuff with big body kits went in without the front bumper and failed on a visual. Landrover freelanders cant be tested on the rollers because of their four wheel drive system.
I'd reckon it comes down to the individaul tester on the day. Sometimes they can be right arseholes on a power trip imo
