As shane said above it is a cam engine in it a seriously handy engine to work on,took me 55mins in college to strip it down to a bare block and rebuild it with fresh big ends, rings, timing belt and associated parts (beat the college record by 17mins

) i would stick with whats in it you could always fit a few tasty bits you'll find loads the cam boys are always selling em,also that idle issue could be down to your idle speed control valve in the throttle body the waxstat in them gives a good bit of bother also would be worth checking your timing with a strobe just to be safe..it'll be handy

stuck a set of 15" golf mk2 wheels on today and they actully suite it very well so ill be getting them repainted and keeping them.also found out what i can repair and replace.it needs 2 new rear arches and 2 sills.front wings might be repairable but im not sure yet.the engine in it is sold which actully suites me because i can have a good look at the bay and repair rust rust etc

friend of mine has one of these. started into it, engine out stripped to bare block, he sent the shell away to be welded but it was so rotten with rust there was nothing good enough to weld the repair panels to so the project was scrapped. pity as it was a T bar one as well with a 4-age engine. still has it sitting there so if you need any parts let me know and i'll see if he has them

Mark I would rebuild the engine in her rather than replace it, you would be taking the engine out either way?? they are a good engine.. Colton(robert) on here was rebuilding one and has gone through the process of taking one out of a MR2, he may give you a few tips or pointers?

If you want to change the engine and fancy something different, what about this??

I thought first years made tea, went the shop and swept floors.

Fair play to you. I still haven't done a timing belt on my own and i'm playing with cars and engines years.
