Same feelings here..... I dont even bother posting some tech stuff or how tos anymore, the car/techinal/ forum feel has been replaced with I dont know what....boards.ie.....

 

I agree that there is a lot of crap being posted on here lately.

But I think Edition38 is the worst site of all for complete and utter bullshit posting.

I never go onto boards so i don't know what it like but it has this place has turned into something!

 

Just a quick one to the mods, this is not a dig at you guys, i know the amount of work you have to put in to make the place run smooth.

 

ah i dunno. the forum is gettin pretty big so you'll have that. i prefer the content of smaller forums/clubs but this place is pretty fast movin so somethin to look at. it's at a difficult point i suppose. the likes of nsdubs are so small there's a more chilled vibe and the likes of edition are so HUGE that even if 90% of it is shite talk the 10% still constitues a big enough proportion to be interesting. vagdrivers has got to the 90% shite talk stage but isn't quite big enough to pull it off. lol.

but i do agree that threads with polls about painting badges black or not etc. are ridiculous. the place would be alot more interesting if there were alot less sheep and alot more build threads and DECENT photo shoots etc. i know its not a suggestion cause the mods can't do anythin but still.......

 

I think the scene is very strong these days!

 

Ill go out on a limb here seeming as this thread has been started....

The main problem I feel is that 90% of the posts on this forum is to do with the people on here, or about them....or about whos doing what, or what they did or relationships between them... I respect that Ireland is a small place and this is bound to happen but I for one just dont care.
This 'banter'(I hate that word) does not really exist on other forums and people just spend there time talking about there cars intead, not about themselves or others.

 

brian that is one of the things that makes this forum good if you ask me. fuck it there was no bit of craic this place would be dead.

Fair enough, but it seems to find its way into every thread.

 

The problem at the moment is that there are loads of retards asking retarded questions about retarded things but you can't just ban them for being retards in the same way you can't force people who have good projects/cars/knowledge to join up and contribute.

And I cannot read most of the stuff on ed38 because of the amount of shite on it, there are only so many times I can read lush, mate, fella and whatever other cool words they have over there to lick each others holes, it isn't a good example of a forum that is mainly filled with decent stuff and only a small amount of crap.

I think that there isn't that much of that type of thing on here, whereas ed38+nsdubs have way way more than here. The threads there are mainly comprised of that type of shite. You aren't going to avoid it completely anywhere you go though.

It's a small place. No one forces you to read all the threads. I don't read the agony aunt or the man Utd stories in the paper yet i still read the paper
Brian - you came back saying you were posting technical content only yet have been a willing participant in banter so you can't have it every way.

I appreciate the fact that people want a better site but a forum is only as good as the sum of it's parts.

Agreed, its up to members.

Agreed on the last bit too, but techinal will always come first, its the other way with a lot of members sadly.

I have a suggestion, it may be stupid but i have seen it on other forums.

Basically to have a valid useable account , u must first register (obviously) but then to have access to the whole forum you have to introduce yourself and your car. That way you only get true enthusiasts.

Then it won't stop people from posting shite (to the hell i do it myself) but it would still reduce the number of people that only register to sell their shit and post stupid threads...

Wat you think? Is this off topic?

I have a suggestion.

What if you handed over control of the site to the people who are unhappy with it, for say a week or so. Give them the power to lock/delete threads and posts, remove sections they think don't add to the site, and hand out temporary bans to members they feel arent adding anything benificial to the site (yes I do realise I'll probably get the first ban).

I just think it would be interesting, and a bit of fun too.

It has nothing to do with snobbery, it's to do with shit thread content and abuse being thrown about.

Nobody ever said the mods do a bad job so why would you bring that into it?

yes there are cliques and good friends on here and there is a bit of craic and threads about whos going where on the beer before a show etc - i'll hold my hand up to that but i'll also happily admit i wouldnt bother going to most shows if it werent for catching up with friends on here and or going for beers before hand, so im always gonna want to have a bit of craic on here

I do agree alot of shite threads but with the volume of people on here it is to be anticipated, edition got rid of the bar and the forum was much better then than it is now but the mods had a huge job trying to moderate it all, they then brought back the bar and now its full of threads about whats your favourite breakfast cereal and other shite like that

happens everywhere, and to be honest i dont think anything can be done about it, its peoples free will to post stuff and its up to us what we decide to read
