Intercooler S3 Or Front Mount?

I'm going to go down the intercooler route, just want opinions on which intercooler to go for, S3 or Front Mount in terms of performance. I'm not a big fan of a massive intercooler bursting out through my bumper, so I'd want the front mount visible but not in your face.

It'd be for an mk5 GTi.

Thanks

Tristan

As far as i know the S3 is a twin cooler i.e one each side so would be totally un seen,so best for stealth.

EDIT sorry re read your post, don't know which would be best for performance but Micky32 on here has the S3 set up on his VRs and is not short on ponies.there are also a few guys with 1.8T conversions running the S3 (mk1) set up.

Michael has the forge twintercooler setup, dont want to sound like a miser, but I dont want to spend the €700 odd on it. I'd be looking at the TFSi S3's which have a larger version of the mk5 GTi intercooler in single form.

Kevinm did it on his ED30.

Lots of people in the UK use both the S3 and the twintercooler together. Probably overkill for just fast road car.

Other options are BSH, VF Engineering and Neuspeed.

Nearly all of them are discrete as long as you leave the bottom grill in.

Afaik KevinM has just the S3 and had no bother with 270 odd hp. Think he has much more now.

I think he had his standard intercooler when he was dyno'd at 281bhp.

Did you get my pm Tristan?

I did 281 with the standard GTI intercooler. I'm running around 300 now with the S3 and I cant heat soak it.

There are 2 types of S3 intercooler. The one fitted up to 2008 cars has aluminium end tanks (which I have). 2009 on cars have a version with plastic end tanks. It's still thicker than the GTI one. The aluminium end tank version was overkill on a 265bhp car.

Cheers, I got it alright. Looks like I'll be going the same route as yourself.

You don't have the part number of your one by any chance do you?

I've heard that you can only get the plastic end tank version new now...
