One fifth of Irish motorists have been breathalysed during the past year, according to a survey conducted by the AA. The organisation says the research found that Dublin drivers were more likely to be tested than those living outside the capital.

Motorists in rural Munster are the least likely to be breathalysed.

A quarter of a million breath tests have been carried out by the Gardaí so far this year, while road deaths are down 30% on the same period last year.

This sounds a bit too much to me - 1 in 5 drivers has been stopped and breathalized? Wow...........

 

Ive never been breathlysed (whats the odds I get stopped this week after saying that) however my mate was stopped and tested 3 times in a week when driving into the city from leixlip to pick his wife up in the evening.

 

7ish years driving never been tested. Live in Kildare and 2 years was commuting to Dublin for work.

Iv been tested a few times..
Although i do alot of late night driving so it would be expected really.

 

3 times, twice in 20min, i told them i never drank but they still checked..

 

I've changed this to a Poll (hope you dont mind americanpaddy), as I thought the figures were strange.

Stopped at a checkpoint over one of the bank holiday weekends earlier in the year. Didnt get breatalysed, but they were clearly looking for drink drivers.

a poll of 5300 motorists? so are they not dividing those results into the population and getting what they assume as an accurate estimate?

 

Been Breathalysed four times since that reandom testing law came in law. I've bever been tested later than 8pm and have not been tested in the last 12 months. I don't drink so would always drive home after a night out and don't think I've ever met a checkpoint!

Never for me either, over 10 years driving.
The cops round here seem to prefer shooting fish in a barrel, parking their mondeo behind a hedge on the dual-carriageway.

i was tested 3 times by the same guard in the space of half an hour one night!!! kinda got sick of driving around then and went home!! it was about this time last year when i last got tested! they will be out in force for the xmas if its not to cold and wet

there was a lot of testing around portlaoise wen it was brought out first but never see them of a saturday night anymore

 

never been tested but been in the car with people who have. my dad got tested on booterstown avenue there recently on a very quiet weekday evening at like seven o'clock.

but like has been mentioned never seen checkpoints on the road doing it late at night.

 

I have yet to be brethalised but my Dad as a Taxi man gets tested at least once a week

 

im often driving jap yokes so im always stopped and breathalysed lol...

and often more than once by the same cops in a short amount of time.
