Interesting. There was a whole thread here about a new Evo X, and its just been deleted when I posed a question to him about him divulging his customers private information.

Now, that is suspicious behaviour if I have ever seen it.

Who has the rights to delete threads? I would assume the board admin and the original poster?

Someone somewhere has something to hide. See this link. This is where the poor victim is appealing to others for help.

That is correct. Well done, BTW, for spotting and recording the username involved.

I would hope the moderators of this forum will help identifying the person behind that username.

Personally, I think all of us car enthusiasts need to stick together, regardless of our affliation to different makes. Hence me reading a lot of different forums. His username is posted on octane now, so at least no one can delete that!

This is what I originally posted on that thread (still had an unrefreshed window open so just copied and pasted!)

QUOTE Sorry guys, usually I only browse this site, but I felt I needed to respond here. I know Babyface said what he said tongue in cheek, but Vdubliner what were you thinking?

I assume that this poor guy paid your company to strip out his container and maintain his property securely. By my count, you did the following:

1. Took pictures and posted them on the internet before it was collected, thereby announcing it presence to every car thief in Dublin.
2. Told everyone what a fast car it was with unrivaled spec
3. Told them you were in the transport/container business
4. Told everyone that the poor unfortunate chap was from Cork.
5. Admitted that you took it for a test drive!

It would not take a rocket scientist to use this information for ill gain. Do you not think you betrayed your customers confidence by releasing all of this information, and broadcasting it over the internet???????

The guy is posting the fact that the car was stolen all over other forums. The link for his post on octane.ie is already here on this forum, therefore it is only a matter of time before this thread gets linked on octane.ie

In fact, I feel obliged to do that now.

Within 5 minutes, the post was gone........

Vagdrivers.net has nothing to do with this vehicle and resents any allegations that the post was moved as part of any cover up.

Declan

Thanks Declan. No offence intended my friend. Never thought it was a cover up on vagdrivers part. This website is beyond repute. Thanks for reposting it (my integrity was being questioned elsewhere).

Thanks Declan for getting me out of my bed!

We are disgusted by the fact that this car was stolen and want to reiterate the fact that we are not covering up for anyone.

The thread will be left and I am sure all our members and viewers will be keeping an eye out for this car.

And apologies to you for getting you out of your bed Trevor. Perhaps I should start my crusades for justice a little earlier in the evening.

I think thats a little over the top - What did he do wrong? - So from now on we can not post any pics of cars we don't own?

I am sure the original poster is a fellow car enthusiast and detests car theft as much as us all - And just to stress the facts -nothing on his post could have led to this car getting stolen - and it was safe and secure in a lock up when he saw it and took the pic.

Its bad when anyones car is stolen - even worse the way this one was but it is only a car and no one was hurt - Hopefuly "Gone in 60seconds" gets his motor back in one piece and the scum that took it get caught.

Seconded babyface. My only wish is that gone in 60 seconds gets the car back too. As I said in the other thread I dont believe for a second that vdubliner had any hand in the theft, but the cold reality is that the information may have caused harm. There are not that many container transport companies in dublin. And car thieves would know exactly where they are. All you have to do is look up golden pages. It was parked out the front as was evident from the pics. So like it or not, there was enought information posted to locate the car before it was collected by the owner.

Anyone who has done nothing wrong has nothing to fear.

Correct, as is the case with Vdubliner. Has done nothing wrong, and has nothing to fear. I can see nothing that he posted that could contribute to the theft of this car and there are several people posting on other forums looking for him to be sacked from his job. Utter bullshit in my opinion.

A truly beautiful car!

Less of the blame game and lets just keep our eyes peeled!

Correct and right, it's a car that would'nt go un noticed. As said already vdubliner i'm sure is a respected member of this forum and in my eye's most certainly not involved in any criminal activity. If it's looked into and i'm sure it's quite possible, then his previous posts will show the kind of guy he is. It may have simply been an opportunistic crime , we all know it does happen quite regular. Remember the poor guy a few weeks ago who had his EVO , RS4 and 205 GTI burned. There is always going to be an element of society who'd just love to wreck what you've worked hard for. I hope the owner gets their car back undamaged , and then fits a tracker.

Forgot to share this with the Forum but upon reading this stolen Evo thread I taught it better let people be aware:

A colleague of mine's boyfriend was recently selling his car, a very high spec'd Volvo with power to boot.

Placed an ad in the autotrader and carzone.

Then after little or no calls about the car, received 4 calls from a private number asking about the car, its spec was it fast etc and in a foolish attempt to sell the car was very obliging with the information.

Even gave details of the area in which he lived.

Within a night or two he had a knock on the door ( as the car was now parked in its designated apartment space, the apartment number was easily found).
Upon opening the door three men with crowbars and bats tried to enter the apartment and started shouting for the keys.

The guy was lucky enough to have been able to close the door quickly but they began to break windows and try to break down the door in an attempt to gain
entry to the apartment. He eventually asked them what they wanted- the keys of the car!

Neighbours had heard all the noise and called the gardai but they where long gone with the car when they arrived

The investigation is continuing and they have been able to trace the calls.....

But let it be a warning to all, be very careful when selling your cars, give details of the car and thats all, have someone with you if you are meeting a potential buyer, meet where you think its safe and public, and for the sake of a sale of a car be prepared to drive away if you are uncomfortable

As the owners we are devastated that our car was taken from us and cannot be replaced. We do feel aggrieved that pictures and info re our car were broadcasted before we ourselves had the opportunity to even sit into her. We can confirm that the pics broadcasted were in fact our car as we ourselves picked her up from this spot at the front of the building. We thank everyone for their help and informationn that may lead to her return. We will however allow the appropriate authorities deal with any information that was broadcasted.

In my opinion the person who started the thread about the Evo X has done absolutely nothing wrong. He got a run in a new Evo X and decided to share his thoughts on it with other forum members, in fact if I remember correctly he didnt really like the car. The thread was more about the merits of an Evo than anything else.
When a situation like this arises people look for scapegoats and trot out the usual lines, "stolen to order" "professional gangs" "blah blah blah", when in fact it was really an opportunist theft, committed by a bunch of thieves. There is nothing professional about a thief. A car like that will be very hard to hide and the thieves will want to offload the car as quickly as possble, so there is a good chance that it will be got back, in one piece. If it was my car I would be out looking for it instead if shit-stirring on a an internet forum.

The only thing I can see he has done wrong is posted up pictures of the car where it was parked, from the pics, the thieves could have driven around the docks and found the car quite easily and followed the car to its destination, which would not have to be Cork. Maybe he should have put up some brochure pics instead of actual pics.

QUOTE (will_c @ Jun 24 2008, 11:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>why would he be?

i agree with him.

He posted photographs of someone's car, without their knowledge or permission. It may not be illegal, but it was certainly discourteous.

He stated
QUOTE I taught [sic] my gti was fast till I drove this! nuts. very quick after 3000 rpm and the grip us [sic] something else.

And you see nothing wrong with this? The owner (owner's wife) has objected to what was done, and I happen to agree with her.

Do you think that anyone who happens to come in contact with such a car, be it a shipping company, or a garage, or a valet, has the right to see how quick a car is "after 3000rpm"? Or to ascertain if such a car is "nuts" ? I don't, and I'm surprised anyone would.

I would have thought such a car deserved to be treated differently. The point of importation is where the Gardai should start their enquiries, too.
