Well Folks,
Just thought i would fill you in on my annoying but funny encounter with the cops sunday night last.
I Drive a mkiv Golf 00 clean lowered and Pretty much all OEM mods. Was coming from wexford to dublin(Back up to college) sunday night when i was pulled in by two plain clothes Cops in an un-marked mondeo. I stopped as you do and the two got out and the first words were 'what have you got sprayed on your lights' and it all started from there. The reason why they pulled me in was due to the break lights being Dull supposedly. I got out and tried to convience them that they were genuine standard lights after a five minute debate one got in and pressed the pedal saying ' Look yourself' and Not a bother bright as any lights the other lad said ..oh there not to bad now under this Light. What a load of bull. Because the gaurd was wrong then and had notthing to pull me for he checked everything.

Tyres= perfect
Front Lights=perfect
Window Tint = Perfect
NCT = Perfect
Tax = Perfect
insurance = Perfect well so they thought was out three days but they never noticed..(was paid any way just was waiting on the disc)

After all the checks and still not a thing they decided to under section what ever. to do a full search of the car. glove box emptied, door cards emptied rear seats taken up, rear shelf let down spare wheel well checked and not to mention me gear bag full of clothes for the week spread across the Roof. And not a thing other than a few panadol

. and that was it a few last words from them were ' just give them a clean to make sure there clear'

So i will finish my Rant now Lads and ladies but beware of the dublin gaurds they wont know what Smoked Hellas Rears are and because of this you may be searched haha.

P.S I wouldnt be your average Looking drug dealer either to warrant a search if that what yas are thinking and wouldnt be driving like a looper either.
Heres a few of the cars lights dont think there dark what ye think?
Cheers
Tom

he probably thought that your rear lights got burnt when you were trying to spark up a joint while hiding for the wind behind your car, so i can understand why he might have suspected something and thats a perfectly ligit reason to search you under section "its near the end of the month and i havn't dished out my monthly quota of tickets, i better do this lad for something or sergeant will have my ass"
those gards should have been done for wasting garda time.

To be fair lots of cops do there jobs just fine but ive met plenty of them recently that seem go out of their way to be extra annoying.
Its seems these days if youve shown any interest in your car whatsoever other than for the purpose it was intended for then your going to get pulled. I got stopped because of 2 stickers in my back window before and was promptly told to remove them. Neither offensive,or put there by me.
Says it all really.

At least you didnt get your car taken off you.. Last month I lowered the front of my coilovers a bit more and put on a cupra r splitter and i got the car taken off me for being too low, they said I wasnt insured for it being that low... They got a tow truck out and they said well look its ''too low to toe'' so they left me on the side of the road, no sign of a lift home, got a taxi anyway on a tuesday night, next morning I went in had to pay 125 euro to get it out of a scrap yard.. nothing said about the coilovers there, i asked could i speak to the guard and he was ''off duty'' I have since been in the station 6 times looking for the guard and calling the kilkennt barracks and everytime he is ''off duty, and i dont know when he is on next''...

What is the actual law on car being too low?

plain and simple there out to make there christmass bonus. I had gardai car follow me from town for 15 miles, pull me over and the usuall , i asked them was there any particular reason they pulled me over and followd me for the last 15 miles there awnser being ah this lad beside me diditn like the look of your number plates, and with that i replied you havent a lot to be at. put up the window and drove off.

like nearly everyone on any car forum we have all stories of bein hasself by "the law" and to be honest we always will

Personally I'd be writing to the Super about that one and looking for my cash and the cost of the taxi back.....providing it's taxed/insured and NCT'd then I personally don't see why it could be seized (things like dodgy plates/lights/etc are summary offences i.e. you can be summonsed) If you're not getting any hop at the bottom level then it's time to go higher IMHO. Remember "the pen is mightier than the sword"

i was told by a gard that ther is no law against the car being too low as long as the wheels are not fouling the arch!
the law is that you can get done for your lights being too close to the ground and too high! and you can get a summons for every illegal bulb too!

Had a guard do escapade of a U-turn on a main road in town to chase me down for my yellow front headlights, i produced S.I No. 189/1963 of The road traffic act 1963 at which point he asked me what the hell was this i was showing him, told him what it was, so he then told me to wait there and headed off for a few mins, then just chucked the sheet back in the window and told me to move on!. Charming lads some of them.

That was your first mistake. I would have asked which exact section of the road traffic act? More than likely he'd either bullshit you or just tell you to feck off. I'd never leave the car because your not obliged to.

Arguing with them over whether a light is too dull or not is pointless, your bright isnt another persons

If your car is legal to drive how would you get a fine? Unless you do something illegal?
