I was just wondering what are the options with this?

Where can it be done here in Ireland?

What are the pro's and con's to getting it done?

Thanks

I just rang them. The metal is dipped at 450 degrees celcius and a cars panels will most likely warp at that. They normally do heavier stuff but do as small as trailors which would still have heavier steel than a car. It is done by weight and it 70c / Kg +Vat.

BUT they will try anything and they have no problem trying it "we'll try anything once'' but obviously they cannot guarantee anything as it could warp.
I asked if I could try it on a door and he said now problem to see if it works.
Would a galvanised car be good to have done? I know the UK car dipping companies dip alright but it's not galvanised.

hot dipping will make shit of cars,

there was some thing about a crowd in the uk doing it in pvw or golf+ or maybe it was fast ford a few months ago, they did a savage job, shell put in chemical cleaning tanks for hours to remove everything from shell, the amount of weight that is saved is unreal, they also do a full service as far as i can remember,ie cleaning, replacement of all damaged compontents, roll cage fitting , dipping and painting,

The guy in Limerick was sound but its NOT for cars. Exactly as Paul Lane said it will warp and bend panels on a car.

Damien have you anymore info on that place in the UK so I can see what they did. I don't fancy bringing it to the UK before I need to.

QUOTE (Murph81 @ Jul 23 2011, 09:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>we get ships railings, gates and other deck stuff done by them and the work is woeful!

A friend of mine worked there before and had nothing good to say about the place, bunch of cowboys!
Maybe now, im not saying that your wrong. Twas years ago we were dealing with em. Things can change i suppose

friend of mine had it done, i can find out company details if you want, uk company no irish option.

he had all rust cut out and welding done before dipped or so he taught,
when car came back there was more welding to be done as the dipping showed up every tiny piece of rust which is good
but then the new welding undid the good of the coating and obviously the new metal isnt coated

the right way to do it is acid dip it then take it home and do all the cutting and welding as all the rot is now obvious holes with no doubt as to what needs doing
then take it back to for a further quick dip and coating and priming,
the trips back and over with jeep and trailer on the ferry really add up price wise,
not much extra for the extra acid dip

after a year sitting in an enclosed shed rust can be seen on some parts of car, nothing major but it shows that nothing will stop rot so its hard justify the expense since the body work/paint will prob have to be done in a few years again anyway

This was a problem with the old shell its not with this one now! I won't need to do it. The white Irish shell is one of the cleanest I've ever seen.

I'm not going to go to the UK twice with the shell it will add 3k + onto the overall cost.
