Autogauge Boost Gauge Installation

Image

Some other essentials: PFTE Tape, 1/8 inch hosetail to take air from plastic intercooler pipe. Anti-judder t-piece, 1/8" air pipe, 4 electrical connectors to connect gauge wires to dimmer switch in dash.

Image

Drilled and tapped intercooler pipe and a bit of locktite on the threads:

Image

Attach air pipe:

Send pipe in under the wipers and bore hole through rubber/plastic grommet and send into dash.

Off with dash. Take a positive and negative feed from dimmer switch:

Get wires ready to send up to A-pillar

Quick wire up to see if light works:

Yep! But I thought the light would have been red! Not bothered about this though.

Image

I was waiting for pillar pod to arrive from Nomad Racing so I just put the gauge up on the dash:

Pillar Pod arrives:

Off with old A-pillar snaaappppp!

In with gauge:

Finito!! Boosting up to between 22-24psi peak depending on how you drive her. Holding at 20psi after peak.

LED white sidelights from Ebay, no fault codes, very happy with em. Look well on black car.

Image

Mudflaps on (got rid of blue LED festoons for White ones)

Image

Treated myself to LED foglamp 5w bulbs. I never use foglights so said I'd use them as extra sidelights.

Image

The Japs wire up bulbs backwards so make sure to swap positive and negative wires around or you will prob get angry and swing a hammer through the grille!

Image

The lights were meant to be white but never turned, but I'm happy with em for €11!

COLD AIR FEED D.I.Y!

Right I wanted to get more air into my engine as there was a bit of a flat spot from 3rd onwards when giving her the beans. I put this down to the intercooler being fairly big on her so I decided to put on an extra Cold Air Feed. Cold air is denser than hot air (that's why hot air baloons rise!) so I bought a length of 40mm hoover pipe and attached it to the front 10" scoop that sends cold air into the engine bay. I wanted to leave the original air feed in because the battery tray can't be moved over to take a much bigger pipe than that's already there.

This is the pipe sitting in the pipe that connects to the scoop. I had to do a bit of chopping and changing to get it to fit nicely into it.

Image

The actual scoop picks up the air in that flows through the slit above the splitter. I'm happy that this will definitely supply enough air! (excuse the laquer on the splitter, a little buffing got rid of that!)

Image

Smoothed out airbox using plier and minigrider and sanding machine. Did the top lid of air box too. Drilled a 42mm hole and sent in hoover pipe.

Image

Car pulls better. No more flat spots and it sounds good too! Cheap €12 mod!

Treated her to a rear bumper respray €170 at Frank Byrnes in Galway

Image

And a quick laquering on front bumper too!

If anyone is thinking of buying wind deflectors for a Leon, here's a pic of my Heko's: €50 deliverd from fk performance in Sligo.

Image

Managed to get my Sony 6 cd changer in from my last Leon, bit of a squeeze getting the wires in to behind the Head Unit

Just steel pressed plates would be nice even, german plates are done to death now

Yeah looks crap doesn't it! I got it free and just put it on. I wonder if the german plates would look nice on her??

Hi man, thanks!

Well I wanted to do some mods first ya see. She's de-catted and I have a forced cold air feed on it so if and when I map it, I can map these in, along with the egr disconnection!

My biggest question with getting it mapped is what clutch/flywheel set up to go for?

SMF + sachs

DMF (OEM)/Sachs + sachs 400ft lbs clutch

She's definitely running more than 150 brake at the mo, it aint lazy and has far less turbo lag and flat spots.

Thanks man, I love it, not too many around. It's good on juice and good on torquey power!

Nice golf! Like the smoked lights, and I love the silver colour. My last leon was silver. Think all german cars look good in silver.

Hi man,

I live in glenburren park on tuam road, used to live in doughiska. Yeah I'm always around. Nice machine of yours, love the alloys and I always like the metallic silvers. My first Leon was silver but bit the bullet and went black!

Is yours mapped?

Ya I remembered seeing it a few times there.

I had a black magic Leon for my first car and it just looked brillant when clean. Trouble was keeping it that way. Only thing about a silver car is that it is a common colour.

Mines not mapped (yet) but will be looking into it soon. I want to do a few other small bits first like a decat, and i need to get my turbo checked to see if its all ok. My car has high milleage but it seemed like it was cared for the previous owners.

Looking forward to seeing it at the next Galway meet

Nice one! Yeah there's something class about the black magic. I agree about the silver but I think VAG cars look great in silver, black, red, platinum grey and even yellow. There's a yellow leon going around galway. He works in dunnes. Rob from Claregalway. Met up with him last saturday. 110 brake opened up to 130 with performance clutch.

He was saying it's a curse to prevent the colour from fading!

Yeah I'll be there definitely.

Not much if any places around Galway offering a good remap?
