A friend wants to import a VW toe rag and then commercial ise it. Would this jeep be liable for the cheap 80 euro vrt? What does it go by? Height?

At the moment to vrt a commercial is something like 80 euro. But its not too easy to convert it. i have a check list which has a lot of stuff on it, i did it to a car before, but never got around to registering it.

Everything that you have to do, has to be permenent, so that means when you remove the rear seats, it has to have a false floor, and bulk head put in place, which cannot be removed, same with rear windows.

Off topic, but there is an R32 currently being converted to a Golf van at my local VW dealer

In theory the conversion has to be done in such a way as to make it impossible to convert it back to a passenger vehcile again.

Well dont know if i am going to shed any light on this or fog it up for ya but here goes,

I brought in a swb trooper last year which was a passenger one and i converted it to a commerical myself,

I was'nt allowed the €50/80 cheap vrt had to clear it at the 13.5% rate which is the rate for the like of a golf van,

I think it has to measure 2m from the back of the driver's seat (in its most rear position) to the back of the vehicle/cargo hold/backdoor

Not sure on that but revenue chap was rattling on about something of the like

yeah, to qualify for the 50 euro vrt the rear floor from bulkhead back has to be 2m long, otherwise it's 13.5%

not done it for vrt myself but i hear if you're not an authorised converter then you basically have to present the vehicle for a series of inspections as the work progresses.

I converted something that was already on irish passenger plates and the job was quite simple, you can even keep the rear windows if you want

It's not based on the distance from the bulkhead back, it's the wheelbase. And the cubic metre measurement applies to crew-cabbing a 4x4. An amazon has the deep wheel well and therefore applies. If you're doing the conversion yourself, the floor has to be metal, un-carpeted until inspection time at least with visable welding points. Also you have to have a low bulkhead,i'm unsure of the dimensions. To answer your question, the toerag is the small vrt

stick in a bed and stove and call it a camper

The crew cab rule is measured from the first solid upright, basically the C pillar. The cubic measurement applys from there back. You can't infringe on the passenger compartment. I enquired about a Touran crew cab before and that's why they couldn't do it. The wheelbase thing is a tricky one, the reason most short wheel base 4x4's are on the 13.5% is the load space doesn't meet the cubic requirements. I think Harris's got around this on the SWB trooper by removing the airbag steering wheel and moving the seats forward. That's what i've been led to believe by a few dealers but i don't know how accurate it is.

When i was in the VRO last week some guy was going toe to toe with the inspectors over his "commercial" Kia

He basically took out the seats stuck in wooden floor and wanted it as a comercial for VRT. He was told he has to have a solid decked floor seatbelt holes welded up and windows permanantly covered over ! He wasn't a happy bunny !

Where is he sourcing the toe rag? I know someone looking for one

IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO GET A COMM TOE RAG THAN TO CONVERT,ITS 50 EURO FOR COMM VRT,IT IT COMES IN AS A PASSANGER ITS VRT'D AS ONE,EVEN IF YOURE GOING TO COMM THE THING YOURESELF,THERES NO WAY OUT OF THIS,I GET THIS THE WHOLE TIME IN THE TEST CENTRE,SEAT BELT HOLES HAD TO BE WELDED UP BUT NOT ANY MORE,JUST FILLED IN ,THE REAR WINDOWS DONT HAVE TO BE PANNELED OUT,BUT IT DEPENDS ON WHO CHECKES IT OUT IN THE VRT OFFICE(IT HAS TO BE CHECKED OUT IN THE TAX OFFICE IN NAAS NOW)GO FIGURE,HOPE THIS CLEARES UP THINGS A BIT
