Did you give glass a good clean. I was told before that the tar can stick to the glass and cause that musty smell. Febreze might also help.

 

yeah I gave the whole car a clean. I washed the windows and cleaned all the seats and floor surfaces with a spray extraction vac, also wet the seats with febreze . This only masked the smell for a few hours but then wore off.

Sprays mask odors, but charcoal absorbs and eliminates them. What makes charcoal an effective deodorizer and odor neutralizer is that it has a very broad surface area. A single gram of activated charcoal has a total surface area of 500 square meters, which is a little under the length of five football fields laid end to end. Charcoal is also cheap, and is readily available from supermarkets or farmer's markets. To use charcoal to deodorize your car, follow these steps:

Place a few damp saucers on the dashboard, the seats, and the floor of the car.

Add a small amount of dampened activated carbon or wood charcoal on the saucers.

Leave the saucers and the charcoal inside the car for at least 12 hours.

The damp charcoal will absorb much of the cigarette odor, without leaving any odd smell. The longer you leave the charcoal inside the car, the better it absorbs the cigarette smells. With a charcoal treatment, you can get that new car smell you get the day you bought your car.

 

A saucer of vinigar will remove the smell from the car

 

Activated charcoal is in cat litter isn't it?

 

I can't offer any better advice than already given, Best of luck getting the smell out. One of my main hates, and some people have the cheak to complain when I tell them they can't smoke in my car.

 

And afterwards, orange is the natural anti smoke odour..

get a plate full plate of charcoal you get for a BBQ and leave it under the seat. works great

my car used to smell of smoke also used Neutradol gel air freshner, you can get it in applegreen filling stations its like a gel pad that you stick underneath your dash and it absorbs the smell, after a week or so it will shrivel up to a black ball and will take alot of the smell with it, i used about 3 of these one after another and used a cup of vinegar worked for me

 

Fabreeze works!

Bought a couch from friend that smoked.......we used Fabreeze on the couch and it lost the smell after about 3 applications..........try it on the carpet, seats and headliner........
