Cats Eye's On Dual Carriageways

I've a pain in my bo**ox with cats eye's in the middle lanes on dual carriageways and motorways, what's the point of them?
It's probably ok in the government merc s classes as they don't feel the clatter when they drive over them changing lane,
Although, in my Gti and vRS it's a different story, it surely must knock your wheel alignment off after constant driving over them. wouldn't it? That in itself isn't good for road safety, so defeating the purpose!
Anyone else feel the same about these, or is it just me?

I can understand that their there for safety reasons as its alot easier to see where the road is going but surely they can use much smaller ones. Then again smaller ones probably cost more.

If you think they're bad driving over them with your wheels, try hitting them with your subframe

I absolutely hate the bastarding things, and they're not easy to swing between when you're overtaking either.

They never bothered me, For all the hitting of them you do.

Dual carraigeways, Well they stop lane drifting, At least once everyone has zoned out for a few seconds only to be brought back to earth by a few thuds, And secondly for driving in fog, again it reduces lane drifting. Theres two reasons for them anyway?

I completely understand why they're there, I just wish they were maybe 3 or 4 mm smaller, thats all, so I can glide over them without clenching my arse and waiting for the bang.

QUOTE I'd say you had to do similar things every time you went to hit the brake on the way home last night lol.

@ Walter- couldnt resist throwin that into the tread after your reply....

@ Tadhg -LOL, you could say that... puckerd up tigher than a ducks arse, such was the fear, on the spin home last night with not mych in the way of brakes to speak of...

I have to agree, nothing worse then whacking a cats eye and then feeling a bloody wobble in the steering wheel or it's dragging to one side...!!! If i'm paying really close attention I will try and avoid them but that's not always possible plus i'm not that much of a sad bastard

I've seen those new ones on the inside lane on roundabouts and I have to say they would be an ideal replacement...much better light output and they are tiny things that you most likely wouldn't even feel!!! Hell, i'm all for road safety and agree with Shaun that they do stop the odd lane drifter but maybe just keep them outta the middle!!!

they need to be smaller they are fecking huge but I was in England 2 weeks back and along a certain stretch of the a14 there were all missing and the white line all worn away, it was pissing rain at night on a road I didnt know had been driving for 5 hours and couldnt tell where I was on the road, 3 lanes wide with no cats eyes was a bitch I just followed the car in front, thats why there important, But I do agree they need to be smaller.

You'd be thankful for them wehn driving it fog or heavy rain at night etc, at least you can see where the road is. As for hitting lowered cars off them, sure it's a risk of indulging your passion for lowness, if you go really low you're going to hit/rub/get stuck on all sorts fo stupid things, gotta put up with it, or try to avoid them, or go higher

I feel your pain, but and it's a big butt

If your not hitting cats eye's with your subframe or wishbone mounts your not low enough

If you are hitting your subframe, wishbone mounts or ripping your exhaust box off isnt that telling you something? They only stick out by an inch or so!

Cats eyes are one of the best aids to road safety. Build your car around them!

18 lbs? I remember years back pulling a few up, they are only rubber with a reflector unit in them, weighed around 2lbs??? Im guessing there is a buried frame that they sit in?

The new ones are very smart, they can be wirelessly connected so can be told to change colour or signal during fog/tail backs etc and they have even fitted some with cameras that can monitor speed!

Ah it will put muscles on ya Tommy

Are the cats eyes also to act as a rumble strip in case people fall asleep at wheel or warn against lane drift too?
