Fourtitude has been sitting on an Audi-centered story this week. Many including our editors spotted the ad above on various automotive blogs. The piece that seems to tout Audi TDI technology's low carbon-emitting nature by depicting the driver of an A5 attempting to commit suicide by piping the TDI's exhaust into the cabin of his A5. When the driver awakes, he finds he's still alive. The message seemed over the top and tasteless that we suspected a fake.
Artistically, the piece is quite convincing - from the quality HD shots to use of a new Audi's corporate font in the supporting text shots. Then again, that Volkswagen Polo suicide bomber spot a while back was pretty convincing too and it turned out to not have come from Audi parent Volkswagen.
Rather than run the story attributing the piece to Audi we decided to hold off until we could get official word and that has come over today from representatives of Audi of America in a statement saying "This video was not commissioned or produced by any Audi organization worldwide."
German representatives were amusingly logical in their response to the AFP. "It's not ours. We think the clip is tasteless. It's not really a topic that lends itself to this kind of advertising."
"We don't make ads with this music and this font."
"We are trying to get it removed from the internet as soon as possible."
For now we've found the piece at Adland.tv and this is linked above for your review. Warning, some may find it disturbing.
