Was driving the wifes car yesterday for the first time in a few weeks when i noticed that when i was accelerating the car sometimes seemed to hit a flat spot around 2.5k revs, plugged out the maf sensor but made no difference. Any one any ideas ?

have a look at the rev counter when this happens, if the revs rise but you are getting a lull in progress then it could be a slipping clutch.

what milage has the car done?

no the revs dont seem to rise, its like just 2.5k very quickly and just seems to stay there, is revs on eventually but very slowly, it might not happen again then for a while.

Prob the MAF if it makes no difference when plugged out.

Probably the MAF as Dave says, I know a man that had a mk4 TDi and he couldn't get anymore than 40mph out of it until he changed the MAF, it drove fine again once changed. It seems to be common enough in these cars.

yep, sounds like the MAF, approx 80 euro on exchange from the dealers.

replaced the MAF in my Sharan TDI a few months ago and the new one supplied by the dealer gave gip after a few weeks again.

on 3dr MAF now and all is well.
