on the same note, i came accross a boost guage from a wartime fighter plane the other day and thought it would be a cool addition to a car,
only problem is, looking the the back of the guage, it had a brase threaded bar jutting out and not sign of anything else.
how would this be set up does anyone know?

Its a boost setting gauge Alan, on older planes you would dial in the boost you needed for say taking off, or landing. Boost rate or pressure setting was dialed in with a boost knob. This would also attach to the gauge you saw so that you would know what setting you were on. Another gauge tells you manifold pressure at a given engine load and could be referred off against the boost gauge, that way you could dial to a higher boost setting if you needed it or were in trouble.

Bit of a poor explanation, but you get the idea. Its of no use to you. I have a load of aeronautical gauges somewhere, I must look for them sometime and throw up a few pics.
