I'm restoring a mk1 golf gti. Its an '82 gti lhasa green. When I got the car it was missing an engine and front suspension and a load of other bits. The pictures will tell ya what I've been up to so far.

Update - here's a few webpages I've set up so ye can have a good look at the car..

Dont mind the dates on some of the photos, should say 2006 not 2003

Just re-fitting as much interior parts except sound deadening, carpets, seats then building up the doors, fitted the exhaust......really waiting for it to get wired. My brother is a very good auto electrician so he is doing the work, he's just busy at the moment. Will be worth it cos his work is really good, it has to be! Other than that is just a matter of fitting the little things and admiring my work so far!!

Great work Billy,
Had you any trouble fitting the de-badged grill. I got one but, it wont fit straight on. needs a few mods. it seams to have a slightly different curve. lights etc are in the correct places. If you are welding the sunroof gutters etc, remember the heat travels and will melt the vinyl.

Yea the de badged grill I got was bad fit. Got it off volkswarenhaus. It was not curved at all to match front panel and had plastic catches that did not line up with anything. Mounting holes were not great either. I got it to fit though all the same but not sure if I will be keeping it in the long run. Was only 30 euro so not too annoyed about poor fit.

Anyone else ever have to carry out repairs to a mk1 sunroof without replacing the roof skin?
