Well lads,

Asome of ye know im running the T5 steels on my mk3 golf. Over the last few weeks there has been a progresvly louder rattle come from what i thought was the adapters. So i check the adapters and they are rock solid, no movement at all. However the brake disc can be rotated about 20 degrees or so clockwise and back.. as if its not attached to the hub... and when driving they are rattling around making awful noise. I had a theory that maybe the discs have cracked or sheared or something but a mate of mine who has adapters on his mk3 said his did the same..

Can anyone shed some light on this as it is starting to worry me..

Cheers

Joe.

Your discs should be clamped tight by your adaptors to the hub, i'd be very worried if they are rattling.

Makes no sense Al, as already said even if the pointless disc screw has sheared the adaptor should be holding everything in place and i'd be getting those wheels off and checking wtf is going on if your getting any movement!!!!!!

Iv had the adapters on for a few months and never had any trouble at all.. In the last few weeks its started to do this.Iv had the wheels off and the had a good look and the disc seems to be moving but the hub and the adapter are rock soild. Im gonna have to take off the adpaters and see whats goin on cause it aint right..

Where did you get the adapters? Are they home made and are they for a Mk3 Golf?

They were on a mk2 jetta before, im not sure where they were made, theyve been on a few cars on the site.

The thing i dont get is that theyve been fine for ages and now there doing this, and there def not loose or anything,

Cheers for all the comments lads, appreciate the help

what condition are the discs in? have you fitted new pads recently?
... may or may not be, but to me it sounds like the brake disc (outer or friction surface) has cracked/broken free of the 'top hat hub mounting bit' that goes on the hub/wheels bolt through.. the disc has to be well old and scored for this to happen though; usually happens when new pads are fitted to an old scored disc, or the pads shoulders havent been lubed copper anti seize grease and they grip on and dont release..... ... the remains of the disc (outer) is proberley only still there as the caliper 'body' is guiding it'... this happened to me years ago on an old opel, where I was just bought pads and didnt have the coin for discs....

The pads and discs are onlym a couple of months old, no scoring or anything. Im going taking off the adapters tomorrow, Have a proper look, but its baffling me as to why its happening?

I thought that the discs may have cracked or something alrite, but i cant see any damage at all.

Ill let ye know how I get on with it, as im sure your all as confused as i am..
